Jubilee Hour – Can you give 1 hour over 1 year?

Jubilee Hour – Can you give 1 hour over 1 year?

This year, at the Jewish Expo JVN were promoting a campaign about ‘Giving the gift of time.’ Everyone who signed up had to pledge to give an hour of their time to volunteering, and in return they were given a funky coloured watch.

They say that there’s no such thing as an original idea, and by strange coincidence about a month later a similar concept was born in honour of the Queen’s Jubilee, aptly named Jubilee Hour . The idea being to perform an act of public service, to honour and thank our Queen for every year of her own exceptional service to our country and the Commonwealth.

The idea was conceived by David Altschuler who was inspired by a similar initiative in honour of Nelson Mandela in South Africa.

As the faith partner of  Volunteering England JVN  together with the Board of Deputies came up with our own Jewish version of Jubilee Hour. Our campaign partners, Jewish News will be running a feature over 4 months, with moving profiles on volunteers, who are after all the unsung heroes of our community.

We all have the capacity to make a real difference and contribute to making the world a better place.

In addition, over the next few weeks, log onto www.jvn.org.uk  and you’ll find a dedicated ‘Jubilee Hour’ page where you can tell us how you are going to spend your hour of volunteering. Every person will be counted by our digital clock, so make sure register.
